2026–27

Tuition & financial aid

Each school sets its own tuition. On-campus tuition is paid monthly; online schools charge by plan or by course.

American Fork

Most private schools require the full upcoming year’s tuition to be paid up-front in the spring as a non-refundable deposit. AHS is different, however, in that we allow month-to-month payments. Our tuition is also very different from comparable private schools, as our rates are 1/2 to 1/3 lower. Because all buildings and land are funded by generous private donors, and because we carry no debt, AHS tuition is half of what it would be otherwise.

American Heritage School is a qualified provider for the Utah Fits All Scholarship (UFAS)

Tuition Payment Cycle (March 2026 - February 2027).

When do I have to pay my tuition?

Seating status will not be granted until the March installment has been received by the school. If not received by March 1, accepted students run the risk of being placed on a waiting list.

  • Monthly Installments—patrons will make twelve monthly installment payments from March 2025 through February 2026, each installment due by the 5th of each month.
  • Late Enrollment—students enrolling after the month of March will have an alternate payment schedule. If the late enrollment occurs after the start of the school year, tuition amounts will also be adjusted so that tuition paid is commensurate with the number of days attended.
How do I pay my tuition?

ACH—School patrons are set up to do an automatic debit from their checking account on the 5th of each month. Bank account information is submitted at the time of enrollment. For questions, please contact Ali Walters at ahsaftuition@ahsmail.com.

Does American Heritage School accept the Utah Fits All Scholarship?

American Heritage School is a qualified provider for the Utah Fits All Scholarship (UFAS). Please note that the UFAS ($8,000 per student) does not cover the entirety of the tuition obligation, so families should be prepared to pay the tuition balance. All families, including UFA applicants and awardees, begin making monthly tuition payments in March before the school year starts. When the school receives your UFA payment, a refund of any overpayment will be made.

Can I use 529 Plan Funds to pay tuition?

Yes. An account holder can distribute up to $10,000 per year for K-12 tuition expenses Tax-Free from a 529 Plan. American Heritage Salt Lake City is a qualifying institution. Please consult a tax advisor for more specific questions.

Is there any application fee?

A non-refundable application fee is required to be paid with all applications. Application fees include initial assessment fees (see “Evaluation & Expectations” for more details):

  • Kindergarten Student: $50
  • 1st–12th Grade Student: $75
  • International Student: $110
Are there any other fees of which I need to be aware?

Tuition covers virtually all of the basic, curricular experience a student has at American Heritage School. Additional expenses may include, but are not limited to, uniforms, experiential learning courses, and available various extra-curricular activities that your child may elect to pursue. Extra-curricular offerings include after-school athletics and music programs. Extra-curricular programs often do have a participation fee associated with them that is designed to cover the costs of offering the program.

What is the payment schedule for international students?

International tuition is due in full by June 1, or upon enrollment if a student is offered a seat after that date. Please be aware that a student’s seat will not be confirmed until the full balance is paid. If payment is not received by the June 1 deadline, accepted international students may be placed on a waiting list.

If choosing to wire funds, please contact the Admissions Office for instructions.

What is the refund and reimbursement policy?

The first 25% of annual tuition collected through installment payments is designated as earnest money and is non-refundable once drawn.

Any tuition payments collected beyond that initial 25% are refundable on a prorated basis if a patron withdraws during the academic year. Refund eligibility is determined based on the portion of the academic cycle that has not yet transpired at the time of withdrawal.

Example:

If a patron withdraws after 20% of the academic cycle has transpired, and 70% of the annual tuition has already been collected through monthly ACH payments:

  • the first 25% collected is retained as non-refundable earnest money;
  • 20% is retained for the portion of the academic cycle already completed; and
  • the remaining 25% is refunded as prepaid tuition attributable to the unused portion of the academic year.

Salt Lake City

American Heritage School offers more affordable tuition than most private schools in Utah. Our tuition cycle runs from March through February each year. Students who enroll by March 1 can take advantage of a 12-month payment plan.* Monthly installment amounts increase as the number of installments decreases. Payments are processed via bank draft on the 5th of each month.

Online High School

We price by the course, not by the year. Families enroll in what their student actually needs, whether that is a full load or a single class, and pay only for that. There is no application fee and no enrollment fee, and official transcripts are free.

Tuition is charged per term. A term is one semester of a Live course or one segment of a MyPace course. Full-credit courses run two terms; half-credit courses run one.

What a full year costs

Graduation takes 25 credits, or 26 for the class of 2028 and later, which works out to about six credits a year. Fourteen of our courses have a Live section, mostly electives, AHS Life, science, and writing, while English, math, and history offer one each and everything else runs MyPace. So a realistic schedule is mostly MyPace with a course or two Live, and these examples reflect that rather than a hypothetical all-Live year.

Financial aid

NEED-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS

Most financial aid awarded by the school is based upon demonstrated financial need. The application requires disclosure of family financial information as well as a cover letter explaining the need. The level of need to qualify for financial aid is not fixed by formula and will vary from year to year depending upon the number of applicants in that year, funds available, and the relative circumstances of other applicants in the pool. The level of need does not need to be “poverty level” (federal free-and-reduced-lunch level) to qualify for financial aid, and can be significantly higher depending upon various factors, such as the number of children a family is enrolling at the school, short-term need-based circumstances, availability of seats in a class, and the overall mission-fit of the student and family applicant.

Please note that an award of scholarship in a given school year is not a guarantee of future scholarship awards or amounts.

We use Clarity as an independent and “blind” financial aid assessor of a family’s ability to pay tuition and/or qualify for Tuition Assistance. Create an account with Clarity to begin the application process, which typically takes about 30 minutes to complete. Clarity is user-friendly and can be completed on your desktop, laptop, tablet, or mobile device. Once your application is complete, pay the $60 fee and submit. Please contact our Finance Manager if you have questions about the Clarity fee: cmishler@ahsmail.com.

Note: A student must be enrolled for two terms to be eligible for a Need-based scholarship. Do not fill out an application if your student doesn’t meet the two-term requirement. For admissions information, please contact admissions@ahsmail.com.

MERIT-BASED SCHOLARSHIPS (available to high school only; grades 9–12)

Merit-based scholarships are awarded based upon two primary criteria: (1) mission-fitness of the student and family (demonstrated desire by the student/family to be at the school for its unique faith-oriented culture; consistently demonstrated respect by the student/family for the school’s Honor Code, including willingness to support and serve teachers and staff); and (2) demonstrated academic excellence (top 3–5% of class, depending upon availability of funds). Students may apply for merit-based scholarships after they have been enrolled at the school for at least one semester; these applications are typically awarded only after faculty and administration have had a full year to observe the student’s performance. Merit-based scholarships for full-time enrollment are not currently available based exclusively upon athletic or performing arts ability; however, special skills and experience in specific non-academic disciplines (athletics, dance, music, art, etc.) may be taken into consideration in connection with a need-based or merit-based financial aid application where primary consideration is given by the school to mission fitness and academic excellence.
